PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS

Human Rights Campaign recently released its Buying for Equality "Buyers Guide 2010" which helps us support businesses that support us with every purchase we make.  They list companies and their products we should be purchasing as well as the ones we shouldn't.

A great resource to keep on hand because while some companies like Absolut and Ikea are very verbal about their support of equality, other supportive companies like American Airlines, Bank of America and Citi might not be top of mind (all three of which are Platinum sponsors to HRC).

For more information or to download the guide you can click the box above or go to the HRC website by clicking here.

THE BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE

Seat Guru

I was just helping a friend select her seats for a flight and was reminded of a great website that helps you pick the best one.

Seatguru.com lets you select your airline and the type of aircraft to find the correct seat configuration for your flight.  Hover your cursor over the seats and a small window pops up telling you all the pros and cons of each seat.  A handy tool the next time you are deciding where to sit.

FACE TO FACE FLYING?

Just when you think flying couldn't possibly get any worse, think again!  Now you will be able to see the crying baby on your flight.

Design Q, a UK based design consultancy, has come up with an alternate concept to the traditional airplane row layout.  Their new design has passengers sitting face to face in order to maximize space.  They expect this new design (which is based on the seating of military planes) to accommodate upwards of 50 percent more passengers per flight while reducing the cost by 30 percent.  The savings will come at a price though because the aisles will likely not allow enough room for food & beverage service.

*Note* the layout is only expected to be used for flights lasting under two hours.

WORLD WILDLIFE FUND TSUNAMI COMMERCIAL

I personally found this leaked commercial to cross the line of good taste.  The Advertisement, produced by DDB Brazil, has created quite a wave (pun intended) of controversy.  You can read more on it by clicking here.

Both the agency and client have since apologized and blamed its creation on "inexperienced staff."  What do you think of it?

GAYLEBRITY CELEBRITY CRUISE – DAY 1 -> ROME, ITALY

We flew United Airlines D.C. to Rome and were upgraded to Business class.  I heard my name over the intercom and was praying hoping that we would get an upgrade.  The United crew took such great care of us. Every time I woke up during the night my water glass had been refilled!

United Airlines provided us with a kit that had;

*Eye patches (which I haven't used before, but were great given the cabin lights never really were dim enough).

*Noise canceling headphones and earplugs were a nice surprise, especially because of the noisy child in the row behind us.  I always thought children weren't allowed in Business / First Class but maybe that has changed since the economy has tanked?

The TV situation wasn't quite up to par with other airlines like American and Jet Blue but I did get my fill of Miley Cyrus so who can complain about that?!?

Above is our first look at our ship "Equinox."

The check in takes quite some time because of older travelers so my suggestion would be to make sure you have gone to the bathroom and purchased a bottle of water at the airport prior to getting on the bus headed for Civetavecchia.

The 45 minute drive resembles the country-side of Northern California so if you have been to Cali, definitely try to catch up on your sleep if you're jet-lagged.

Here are some pictures we took of the ship before everyone else arrived;

Using solar panels to create power, what a great idea!

It didn't take Rory long to pass out from the jet-lag.

The lawn is a unique feature to the Equinox so I'm glad we got to check it out before the masses.  The only thing missing from it was this.

I need some quiet time.  Definitely planning on going to read in the Library on an "at sea" day.

Nothing really matters, a good gym is all we gays need!
